For my production I will use one piece of continuous music as a backing track. Using a continuous piece of music will help connect the different camera shots and scenes.
The piece of music I had made for my production is purely piano and cello. I wanted to keep the music simple and pure so i didn't want layers of instruments and a complex piece of music. I also wanted to stick to the style of classical music to emphasize the high class quality of the two main characters.
As the music progresses the tempo increases which will help increase the tension, as the cutting rate also speeds up. Also I chose to have the lower, deeper sound of the cello to contrast the higher, lighter notes being played on the piano. This mirrors the relationship between the two main characters that are seen in my production. The lower bass sound of the cello represents the darker, more cynical nature of the one character (horse rider). The higher pitch piano melody highlights the innocence and vulnerability of the ballerina. The soundtrack in general contributes to the overall concept of contrasting individuals that is presented throughout the story line. Just like I have used a high contrast on the lighting effects for the camera shots to emphasize the difference between light and dark, positive and negative.
